Love during recession?

Many changes are taking place during the recession: social, economic and psychological.
People are losing their jobs, cutting down their expenses and changing their whole lifestyles.

But how does the recession affect the dating game?

iStock_000001484892Small1Traditional dating is expensive and time consuming, a fact that drives more and more singles to online dating websites. Major dating sites and matchmaking agencies report a significant boost of interest in their services during these tough economic times.

Successful and educated singles have always  looked to dating within their socioeconomic sphere – a fact that became even truer during the recession.
The flock of unemployed singles to dating websites creates a problem for executives who are in short supply on these sites.  It  leaves a large population of successful singles unable to use these services.

One of the best examples  of this change is Eligon.ca, an exclusive and discrete dating community for executives. Established  here in our community, a Canadian company is the first to recognize this neglected group of people and  offer an elegant solution:   a perfect hybrid between an expensive matchmaking agency and inexpensive online dating site. Eligon.ca offers single executives the best of both worlds: a large number of singles  matched by an affordable price just like any other dating site, but with  the privacy and exclusivity of a high-end matchmaking agency.

But eligon.ca does not accept everyone. To become a member of this exclusive club, one must first apply with their resume and declare that all of the information provided is true. After submitting your application you must wait 24 hours, and then  it is  manually evaluated according to; education, level of income, and level of management. And if that is not sufficient   your identification will be verified with TransUnion credit reports as well as  other methods.
Alexander Ratz, one of the founders, says they’ve developed their own unique compatibility formula with the help of a psychotherapist and a relationship counselor. This formula is based on common sense and matches people according to similar values and preferences in addition to a simple computerization of traditional matchmaking practices.

“From research and surveys we have done we realize that our members are looking for different features to evaluate potential mates slightly differently than the rest of the population, and they expect a much higher level of design and usability. I believe that we’ve created this site to perfectly cater to the professional’s  needs and wants when it comes to dating,” says Alexander.

  1. Sounds like a great site, I’ll check it out.

  2. Eligon sounds exactly like what I have been looking for. I have not been on too many dating website as I quickly discovered that they are all pretty much the same in terms of the demographic that is being attracted with no real way to verify.

I did pay for a membership with a very poplular Ontario dating service and then never heard back from them again. It appears that Eligon is very different and I hope that I will be approved and start to find quality men who are looking for classy, well spoken and educated woman with values and integrity.

As a professional harpist I have the pleasure of performing at some of the most prestigious venues and the flexibility to create the lifestlye that I desire and that is something I find truely fulfilling.

  3. I’m quite happy so for with Eligon.ca. It’s a very new site so I’m sure we can look forward to improvements but the same could be said for any new business or service.

What impresses me most is the respect that Elgon.ca shows to its paying members in contrast to other similar popular services. We are not subjected to advertising. Every member has a photo.

At the other popular site, nearly half my matches had no photo! Obviously, physical attraction is one of the key factors we consider so a photo should be mandatory. On the other site, paying members are used simply as bait to attract new members who don’t pay and can’t communicate which results in a frustrating experience as you can’t tell whether your match is just ignoring you or they are not paying members. The “free communication weekends” are another tactic to attract more non-paying members who get matched with paying subscribers adding further to the exploitation of the paying members. It just invites the cheap-skates and freeloaders.

What’s the point in giving me matches I can’t communicate with? Do I really want a match who thinks paying $32 per month is TOO much to find a life-long loving partner or who can’t afford the $32 per month? Do I want someone that’s that cheap? Do I want matches that lie about their age which is quite common?

If you pay for a service, you should expect to be treated with respect, not subjected to advertising (although this is not BIG deal for me), not be given useless matches that you can’t communicate with and not used as bait for new subscribers.

Eligon.ca treats it’s paying members with the respect and quality service they deserve.

  4. Sounds like a great concept, does it have enough users though.
