What is Eligon?

Eligon.ca is an exclusive online singles community for executives and educated professionals. To enhance our members' experience, protect their privacy, and ensure compatible matches, individuals must apply and complete our screening process in order to qualify for membership. We carefully screen all applications to ensure our membership is composed of people of similar socioeconomic status and professional mindset. Unlike many other dating services we also run a series of security measures to protect against deceptive individuals and people who misrepresent themselves online. We will ensure that your private life remains private and that your profile will only be shown to relevant and compatible matches.

What type of people will I find on Eligon?

The people that you will find on Eligon are pre-screened, professional singles that seek a comfortable environment for finding a like-minded, romantic partner. What are the screening criteria?

Eligon's Unique Screening Process

We have created a unique screening process to gather singles of a similar mindset. Leading experts and past experience show that couples of a similar socioeconomic status have a greater success rate.

During the research stages for Eligon.ca we conducted a survey among single executives in Toronto in which they were asked how they evaluate potential mates and what socioeconomic factors mattered to them. The results of this survey are the foundation for our screening process in which we evaluate each member's eligibility based on a combination of level of education, level of seniority, and level of income.

To do this, we request that each applicant answer a series of questions regarding their educational background and their employment information.

We then verify this information using various methods including a legal agreement that bounds members to be honest, an identity verification process similar to a credit report (soft-hit), and a self-policing mechanism where users report misrepresentation if they discover it.

Is it safe?
  • User profiles are not accessible to the general public

  • We place great value in the privacy of our clients. Sensitive private information is never made available to subscribers, and general profile information is selectively disclosed only to users of the group chosen by the user.

  • We use the latest technology and encryption methods to secure the information collected from our users. We also use SSL protocol/encryption for credit card information.
  • User Reporting - Self Policing
  • This measure helps us in preventing internet fraud and ensuring authenticity. Every profile and every message dialogue box contains a "report" button allowing users to report abuse, foul play and misrepresentation. Every report will prompt an investigation by Eligon. Legal action will be taken in cases of agreement breach.
  • Members are Legally Bound to be Honest
  • Upon successful registration, all members sign a legal agreement declaring that the information submitted to Eligon is true.

False profiles are eliminated at the registration stage, whilst the remaining applications are then evaluated by employment and educational criteria. Why can't I view the profiles before I sign up?

At Eligon, our member's privacy is a top priority. Our site membership includes public figures, CEO's and senior executives that are highly concerned with their privacy and who wouldn't want their private information to be revealed to the public or any random site visitor. Only after your application is approved and your identity verified will you be able to access the private profiles of our members.

What information will I be asked for during the application process?

You will be asked for the following information:

  1. Preference in regards to the members that you would like to be matched with.
  2. Your height, ethnicity, religion, smoking & drinking preferences, etc.
  3. Address & contact information.
  4. Basic Education & Employment information.

What information will be displayed on my profile and what information will remain private?

Profile Information to be displayed inside the secure members area:

Basic Public Profile Information: Display Name (i.e. a user name that you select), Age, City, Profession, Marital Status, Number of Children, "Do you want children?", "Do you drink?", "Do you smoke?", Religion, Ethnicity, Height, Hair Color, and Eye Color.

Answers to Your Profile Questions: "Things I can't live without", "I respect people that are", "Favourite Books & Movies", "My motto in life", "Ideal vacation place", "In my free time I enjoy", "The ideal day would include", "What I'm looking for in a partner" and "One Sentence about me". Note that only selected and relevant members are able to see your profile.

Private Information that is never revealed:

Profile Information: Email, Full Name, Address, Postal Code, Date of Birth, Sexual Orientation, Phone Number, Education location, Degree attained, Income, Employment information.

How long does the application process take?

The application process takes about 10 minutes to complete.

Can I use a display name or remain anonymous?

We allow you to use a display name which is a username/nickname that you can choose. None of the private information you provide during the registration is made available to your Compatibles. You must however submit a real name for ID verification purposes.

Who can access the private information I submit during registration?

Only our staff is able to view this information during the evaluation process.

Why must I supply my education and career information during the application process?

As mentioned previously, Eligon.ca was created to cater to the needs of single professionals.

To maintain our community's unique atmosphere, we've developed a proprietary screening process. Acceptance to the website depends on the combination of your income, education and career background based on the information submitted during registration.

Am I obligated to pay for membership once I accept the agreement?

No, the dating services agreement does not obligate you to pay for a membership.

How do you verify my income and the details in the application?

We have created a proprietary identity verification process that confirms the authenticity of the information being filled out.

Some details revealed in this check include, full name, address, marital status, place of employment and full contact information.

Due to the fact that we are unable to verify a person's income we utilize the following 2 methods to ensure users provide us with authentic information.

  1. During the registration process, all applicants accept a legal agreement declaring that all of the information provided is accurate, hence they're legally bound to be honest.
  2. We utilize a self-reporting mechanism which allows our users to report any misrepresentation. If a report is submitted, we'll launch a full investigation and will not hesitate to take legal action if a contract breach is discovered.

I have not received a verification email upon registration, what should I do?

When should I expect to hear a response on whether I was accepted?

Membership Selection

I was accepted, what do I do next?

Congratulations. After you have been accepted you will be asked to select your membership type, create your profile and upload a picture. You will then be able to access the member's area.

What are the differences between the trial and paid memberships?

Your trial membership starts the moment you enter the members area for the first time. Paid membership begins after the trial period has been exhausted. In all other aspects, a trial membership is identical to a paid membership in functionality.

When will I be able to access the Member's Area and view my Compatibles?

You will be able to do so when you select your membership type and create your profile.

How secure is your site when paying by credit card?

We use an extremely high level of security, by having the best SSL certificate available. We use Comodo® and ensure that we meet all security and encryption requirements. When you reach the payment page you will see an icon on the bottom right corner that ensures that all information provided during this step is extremely secure.

Creating My Profile

Who will have access to this information?

This information will be visible and presented to the members that fit your search criteria.

Do I have to provide a photo?

Even though an extensive emphasis is placed on the content of the user's profile, we also recognize that for many people, physical appearance is an important aspect to finding a compatible partner. Eligon believes that providing a recent photo makes for a more comfortable selection and identification opportunity; should members decide to meet. Knowing what your prospective date will look like also helps to "break the ice"rather than wondering if that stranger across the room is the person you've been conversing with online.

Members Area

I'm not receiving notification of incoming Eligon messages to my email, why not?

If you are not receiving notifications via email, it could be for a number of reasons:

  1. Check your spam filters to make sure the email hasn't been misfiled.
  2. Your email host may have rejected the email.
  3. You might have accidentally mistyped your email address.
  4. You have turned off the email notifications on your account subscription preferences.

If none of the above applies, please contact us and we will be glad to help you resolve this matter.

I received an email telling me someone's interested in me, what does that mean?

When someone clicks "I'm interested" on the bottom of your profile, you will receive an anonymous email notification. We do this to encourage you to review each one of your compatibles and indicate whether you're interested in them.

When two people indicate that they're interested in one another, they'll receive a notification of a "Match".

What's the difference between being "compatible" and being a "match"?

A "Match" is made when both users have clicked "Interested" on each other's profile. The moment this happens, Eligon notifies both members. "Compatibles" are members who we feel are the most compatible to you based on our careful screening; according to our unique questionnaire that checks preferences, personality and similar values. This adds to the assurance of long term success with a particular compatible prospect.

What happens when I indicate I'm interested in getting to know someone?

When you click on "I'm interested" on the bottom of a user profile they will receive a notification via email that 'someone' indicated an interest in them. This encourages them to review their compatibles again and to indicate their interest. If both of you click "I'm interested" on each other's profile a match will be created and both of you will be notified of it, enabling for an easier communication knowing that the person on the other side shares your attraction.

What is the difference between "anonymous" and "letting someone know" that I am interested in them?

When you let someone know that you are interested in them they will receive a message that someone is interested, whereas, when you let them know it will display your name and they will know who it is. When two people indicate mutual interest towards each other even anonymously, a match will be created and the two of you will be notified.

My profile changes are not reflected, why not?

In order to maintain a level of professionalism within the community we evaluate the input members provide on their profile. Each profile should reflect enough information to give an insight into your personality. Profile approvals can take up to 1-2 business days and you will be sent an email notification when this takes place.

How do I upload an additional photo?

We highly recommend that you upload more photos than the 1 required. In order to do this, please go to the profile editing section and click on "Images". If you are logged in you will be able to click here and you will be taken there directly.

I cannot change my marital status, why not?

In order to make sure that users do not change their marital status often, which we believe is misleading, we do not allow you to make these changes after you finish the registration process. If you would still like to modify it, please contact us and we will have these changes made to your account.

How do I remove my profile?

We are sorry to hear that you would like to have your profile removed. In order to do so please go to the Settings page and click on "Close Account". In the event that this option is unavailable for you please contact us and we will be glad to look into your request.

I want to stop the email notices, how do I do it?

In case you would like to stop receiving notifications and special offers you may click here and log in with your email and password to determine which notifications you want to continue receiving and which ones you would like to stop receiving. If you do not remember your password you can click on the forgot password link to retrieve it.

My Payment is not going through, why not?

At Eligon we fight credit card fraud and use an extremely secure payment solution that will ensure the information entered will be congruent with your records in the financial institution that you are part of.

What is the image of a lock that is found on your payment page?

The lock image is our verification process to ensure that all information that you submit is extremely secure and is congruent with the standards that we have to meet in accordance to Comodo®. You may learn more about Comodo® here.

I am a paying member and I would like to discontinue my automatic membership renewal.

We are sorry to hear that you would like to cancel your subscription and we hope you have enjoyed your time with Eligon. Please go to the Settings page and click on "Close Account".

How many days in advance do I need to initiate the request to discontinue my automatic renewal?

We ask that all members execute this request with a minimum of 24 hours prior to the ending of the current term.

What is your refund policy?

Once purchased, and unless cancelled properly, your subscription automatically renews for a similar period of time, being charged to the credit card you originally used to purchase your subscription. Please note that we do not process email or phone cancellation requests due to their unsecure nature, instead you may cancel at any time by clicking on the "Close-Account" button on the settings page inside the secure members area. As long as you cancel at least 24 hours in advance of a renewal date, your subscription will end as of the next renewal date. Please note that all payments are final and that THE PURCHASE OF A SUBSCRIPTION IS NON-REFUNDABLE. Once you buy your subscription its only value is for the use of certain paid features on the Site, for the applicable purchased subscription period.

What happens in the event that I discontinue my membership prior to the termination of my membership term?

You will be able to use the remaining time credit at a late date. However, if you have payments remaining on your account they will be deducted on their monthly cycle.
